Fees, open access, decision times, acceptance rates, impact factors and indexing for 30 medical and health professions education journals.
Figures come from each journal's website or its publisher's or society's website. PubMed and MEDLINE status is from the NLM Catalog, and Scopus status is from Scopus. Expand a row to see the source for each figure. Fees and metrics change, so check the journal's website before you submit.
Diamond journals are free to read and free to publish in. Gold journals are free to read but charge an article processing charge (APC). Hybrid journals are subscription journals that charge an APC only if you choose open access.
Where a publisher lists a US$ price, that price is shown. Other prices are converted at the European Central Bank reference rate of 30 September 2026 and marked ≈. Prices usually exclude tax. Your institution may have an agreement with the publisher that covers some or all of the fee.
First decision is the time from submission to the first decision of any kind. At most journals this includes desk rejections, which pulls the figure down. Post-review decision is the time to the first decision after peer review, and few journals report it. Each figure is labelled median or mean where the journal says which.
Journals calculate this in different ways, and some figures are several years old. Older figures are marked. Most rates are a share of all submissions, including desk rejections.
MEDLINE means fully indexed with MeSH terms. PubMed means citations appear in PubMed, usually through PubMed Central. Partial means NLM indexes selected citations only. Impact factors are the Clarivate figure shown on the journal's own site, with the year it gives.
